Black Doctor Withdraws as Johns Hopkins Commencement Speaker

Dr. Carson has been a vocal critic of President Obama

dr benjamin carson smilingDr. Benjamin Carson, a neurosurgeon and the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, announced Wednesday that he is withdrawing as graduation speaker at Johns Hopkins University, after students petitioned to have him removed because of his recent comments about gay marriage, Washington Post reports.

“Given all the national media surrounding my statements as to my belief in traditional marriage, I believe it would be in the best interests of the students for me to voluntarily withdraw as your commencement speaker this year,” Carson said in an e-mail to the dean of the Johns Hopkins medical school, Paul Rothman. “My presence is likely to distract from the true celebratory nature of the day. Commencement is about the students and their successes, and it is not about me.”

Carson mentioned bestiality and pedophilia during a TV interview while arguing against gay marriage.

Do you think Carson should have withdrawn?

There goes my respect for Johns Hopkins. It’s more their loss than Dr. Carson’s. He can and will be held as a primary role model for my son.

See.. you can’t preach hate and expect to get away with it in the 21st Century!!!

Hatred of homosexuality is not hatred of people but rather hatred of perverse behavior that destroys people. People who engage in homosexuality, in fact, hate the rest of mankind and their own selves. That’s actual hatred. You people seem to want to call what is evil, good … and what is good you call evil.

It is his right and choice to have his beliefs about gay marriage. That has been my argument for sometime now. If you are against marriage between same sex couples, you are seen as a charlatan or worse. It is my right to be for the traditional marriage between a man and a woman and religion has nothing to do with it. Same sex is an sexual orientation only.
