Employers Fire Workers After Showing Support for Obamacare

It’s no secret that some Americans chose not to celebrate this year’s Inauguration, which marked the beginning of President Obama’s second term, but they did honor the day by choosing to let go certain employees that did.

According to TheUrbanDaily, the city of Las Vegas, NV let go of 22 employees “claiming it couldn’t bear the burden of Obama’s health care law.” But closed minds to new ideas aren’t the worst of pro-Obama employees’ problems. A Cedar City, UT employer chose to lay-off two workers because they voted for the man responsible for implementing this country’s new healthcare laws, which he is clearly no fan of.

Terminating employees based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin is a federal crime, but discrimination laws do not cover political affiliation. Thus, employers are allowed to let go of workers for their political beliefs as long as their state is an “at-will” state, meaning they can be fired for any reason as long as it doesn’t go against federal law. In fact, California, New York, Connecticut, Colorado and Mississippi are the only states that forbid the termination of someone based on political affiliation.

Some company owners are openly proud of dismissing employees based on their political standing. Terry Lee, owner of Terry Lee Forensics said, “Love it. We had to let two employees go to cover new Obongocare costs and increased taxes,” Lee wrote. “Found two Obongo supporters and gave them the news yesterday. They wanted the idiot in the Whitehouse [sic], they reap the benefits. ‘(Obongo is a racial epithet for Obama’).”
