Fox Host Calls Single Women ‘Beyonce Voters’ Who Depend on Government

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling for corporations to deny contraceptive coverage for employees, Fox News is adding its two cents to the conversation with a not so surprising response considering the conservative networks track record when it comes to issues affecting women and minorities

During a recent segment on Fox’s show Outnumbered, host Jesse Watters responded to Hillary Clinton’s take on the decision which she called “deeply disturbing.”

“Hillary Clinton needs the single ladies vote. I call them “The Beyonce Voters” — the single ladies. Obama won single ladies by 76% last time, and made up about a quarter of the electorate. They depend on government because they’re not depending on their husbands. They need contraception, health care, and they love to talk about equal pay,” says Watters.

While Watters comments are not surprising seeing as though they’re coming from a conservative male with privilege, it’s interesting that in 2014 the only two options that women are thought to find support in is the government and their husband as if they aren’t able to be self-sufficient. Also, equal pay is not something that single ladies “love to talk about,” it’s rather something that needs to be talked about as it’s ridiculous that women still earn 77 cents to a man’s dollar.
