UPDATE: Trayvon Martin’s Family Seeks Justice

The family of the 17-year-old high school junior is calling on the FBI to investigate

Update [4/23]: George Zimmerman was released from the John E. Polk Correctional Facility just before midnight Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Times. The neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin posted the $150,000 bond, leaving the jail with nothing more than a brown paper bag.

Under the conditions set by Judge Kenneth Lester Jr., the 28-year-old must wear an electronic monitoring device, observe a dusk-to-dawn curfew, and is prohibited from possessing firearms or consuming illegal drugs or alcohol. He may be allowed to leave the state while he awaits trial on a charge of second-degree murder.

It is unclear as to where Zimmerman was being taken.

Update [4/20]: A Florida judge has granted bail for neighborhood-watch volunteer George Zimmerman – the man charged with the killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

“I wanted to say that I am sorry for the loss of your son,” Zimmerman said to Martin’s parents during the bail hearing, adding that he did not know how old Martin was or that he was unarmed.

“I thought he was a little bit younger than I am,” he said. “I did not know whether he was armed or not.”

Assistant prosecutor Bernie De La Rionda asked that the judge offer no bail, or require a bond of $1 million, based on his history of violence.

Mark O’Mara, Zimmerman’s attorney, asked for bail of just $15,000 and requested that the 28-year-old be allowed to leave the state while on bond.

Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester said Zimmerman cannot have any firearms, drink alcohol or use drugs and must observe a curfew. He will also have to wear an electronic monitoring device. The judge said Zimmerman will not be released Friday.

Zimmerman has claimed self defense.

Update [4/11]: A day after George Zimmerman’s attorneys withdrew from the case, the Florida special prosecutor announced on Wednesday “that the killer in the Trayvon Martin case will be charged with second-degree murder and is in custody.”

Special prosecutor Angela B. Corey said during a press conference that Zimmerman, 28, turned himself in, but refused to say where he is at this time.

Update [3/23]: President Obama addressed the murder of 17-year-old Travyon Martin for the first time Friday morning.

Before the commander in chief shared his personal thoughts on the matter, he remarked that he had to be careful what he said because as head of the Justice Department he did not want to interfere with the ongoing investigation.

However, he did not shy away from talking about the case.

“I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this,” Obama said. “All of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen.”

Calling the fiery case “a tragedy,” the father of two continued, saying “I can only imagine what these parents are going through. When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids.”

“You know, if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon,” said Obama. “I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves, and we are going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened.”

Obama did not address specifics of the case.

I’m an older white gun toting conservative. That being said, I am appalled at the bungling by the local police in investigating this incident. While not trying to be judge and jury, the known facts seem to point to a knucklehead cop-wannabe instigating an encounter with a teenaged kid. Kids that age are often mouthy, but that isn’t remotely a reason to escalate a confrontation to any degree, much less to the degree of use of deadly force.

I am convinced that local law enforcement bungled things and are now digging in their heels as a reaction. This is just more bungling. Zimmerman needs to be held and charges filed. To me, this looks like 2nd degree murder if anything does.

I sincerely hope the black community helps keep the lid on things. Enough violence has been done, and a young boy lies dead. We don’t need anyone else hurt, black, brown, or white.

I am SO SAD to hear this case, to hear the tapes, and to hear this teen’s screams for help AS HE WAS SHOT IN COLD BLOOD. The tapes proved this and moved me to tears. As a young white man with a son, my skin has no bearing on this, as it should not on anything. I lived in Sanford county, I have seen the politics there; drug addicts awarded child support, people being imprisoned, fined, or placed on probation for defending their houses against home invaders, children kidnapped by another parent and taken there with no relief for the searching parent except to be told they have no rights.. Sanford is an awful place for these criminal politics. Zimmerman is a killer. I do not know to say what his punishment should be, be HE WILL BE CHARGED AND NOT LET FREE!!!!!

One of the tragedies that has arisen as a result of this incident is the en masse conviction by the public of George Zimmerman, particularly by those who are African American. Sadly, the vast majority of these people don’t really have a clue about the details of this incident, they don’t know what really happened, they don’t really know how the investigation went, and they don’t really know what was on the minds of the people involved. They can only presume what happened, but they haven’t even done that, they emotionally accepted what has been fed to them by their peers and by the media and have already crucified the guy.

Nearly just as bad is the nationwide cry of racism by Zimmerman. How do you know it was racism? You don’t, you just think it was because of what was told to you which was practically nothing. You don’t know what was on his mind. The 911 audio doesn’t tell us this.

What is really sad is how the reaction to this incident has distracted so many other Americans away from the actual incident itself and got them to now focus on the ridiculously misguided hysteria by the black community, liberal groups and the media.

We don’t know the truth. Zimmerman may be guilty of a crime. He may not. Martin may have attacked Zimmerman first. He may not. Sadly even if it is proven Zimmerman indeed was attached by Martin and did act in self defense and even if this was all somehow caught on video clear and was blatantly obvious many will still find Zimmerman guilty and call for justice, and very, very few will apologize for the premature conviction of the guy. No apologies form the marchers, no apologies from the media and no apologies from Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson.

Wise up and quit being sheeple. You all should be setting better examples for yourselves…
