University Student Expelled for Being Lesbian Must Repay Scholarship

Grace University's student handbook states that "Any student involved in sexually immoral behavior, including premarital sex, adultery, and homosexual acts, is at minimum placed on University probation"

be newsDanielle Powell was kicked out of her ultra religious university in Omaha, Nebraska for being gay in 2012, and now says the only way the school will transfer her credits to another school is if she agrees to pay a tuition bill of $6,300.

Powell was a student at Grace University in early 2011 when she began her first same-sex relationship. The school found out about the relationship through a spiritual adviser at the school (so much for confidentiality), and they brought Powell before a judiciary board.

The university ultimately decided in March 2011 to suspend her and not allow her to finish the semester, and she was told she now owed Grace over $6,000 after an academic scholarship she’d been awarded was revoked. In response, Powell has launched an online petition to pressure the school to forgive the debt.

Private school with a clearly stated conduct policy and a woman who chose to violate it. What exactly is the issue here? It would be gracious to forgive the scholarship repayment but it isn’t criminal or even morally wrong to act as they are acting. So again I ask, what exactly is the problem here (other than your likely belief that the school is homophobic or the like)?

I don’t get the ‘problem’? Why do people keep forcing themselves into areas that have strict rules & regulations then make a big stink when those said rules & regulations are enforced? Grace, take your tail out of there & be glad they didn’t sue YOU for breaking their rules. This is not about your sexuality love…its about THEIR rules. Go somewhere where you can be FREE!
