Former NBA Player Jamal Mashburn Moves into Hospitality Industry

Affectionately nicknamed “Monster Mash,” Jamal Mashburn was a prolific scorer in his 12 seasons in the NBA, where the former college and NBA All Star, spent over 20 years playing for the Kentucky Wildcats, the Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat and the New Orleans Hornets.

Since his retirement he’s become an equally prolific entrepreneur, currently holding ownership of 38 Outback Steakhouse restaurants, 23 Papa John’s Pizza Restaurants, car dealerships and even racing horses.

Today, his company Mashburn Enterprises LLC, in partnership with the investment firm Dema Holdings of Miami Beach, Fl, announced it has acquired a stake in the privately held FairBridge Hotel International (FHI), a hospitality services firm based in Spokane, Washington. Mashburn was named to the FHI Board of Directors and will also serve as the Board’s senior investment advisor beginning February 4, 2013.

“We’re excited for the opportunity to move into the hospitality industry by joining forces with a growing company such as FairBridge, which provides quality hospitality services domestically and internationally,” said Jamal Mashburn, CEO of Mashburn Enterprises LLC in a printed statement. “Together we plan to focus our collaborative efforts on the development and execution of a mobile strategy, which will provide travelers with compelling offers from our properties across a variety of platforms–thus servicing them wherever they are.”

Fairbridge specializes in offering hotel franchise owners services to help run, manage and maintain their properties, including technology services and revenue optimization. FHI’s system infrastructure is currently in use in projects in Southeast Asia, Africa, China, South America and the Middle East.

Jamal Mashburn was recently featured in the November 2012 BlackEnterprise Magazine article, “Great Franchise Opportunities for African Americans.”
