VIDEO: How to Go From Dreamer to Inventor

Our November cover subjects tell what it takes to file a patent and build a prototype

Bringing an invention to market is no easy task. It takes persistence, creativity and unparalleled research. Andre Woolery, creator of the MagnoGrip Magnetic Wristband, and Elaine Cato, creator of the Breakthrough Backless Bra, are too familiar with this process. Woolery’s Velcro band embedded with magnets is designed to keep drill bits and small tools close by. His product is now sold in Loews, Home Depot and several other hardware stores across the country. Cato’s backless bra is designed to offer support to women wearing bare-back clothing. After appearing on the second season of ABC’s reality television show, American Inventor, Cato’s bra was picked up by Maidenform after she signed a three-year licensing deal.

See our behind-the-scenes video of the November cover shoot with Woolery and Cato below, and be sure to pick up the November issue of Black Enterprise on stands now.
