Over the last several years, social media has really taken off. Creating meaningful messaging (hint, hint: selling a product/service in 140 characters or less) and engaging with an online audience has become a necessity for today’s top brands, leaders and institutions.

Many colleges and universities have received a digital makeover, offering courses, resources and tips to prospective and current students via online portals, social networking sites and virtual campuses. Not many historically black colleges and universities make the “Top Social Media Colleges” lists, but MadameNoire is giving these high-ed institutions the recognition they deserve. Spelman College

Ranked as the highest HBCU on StudentAdvisor.com’s list of top social media colleges, the all-girls college is beginning to infuse social media in the classroom and lesson plans. Students have the opportunity to connect with the different schools and departments within Spelman, as well as alumnus and admissions through the college’s various Facebook and Twitter pages.

Morehouse College

As a prospective student, you’ll take college tours, set up one-on-one meetings with admissions counselors and contact students, personally, to get a feel of the school. Morehouse College is saving people the hassle, hosting “Morehouse Mondays” on Facebook which gives prospective students the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the college.
