Spin Becomes Next Glossy to Halt Print Edition, Beefs Up Online Presence

The industry has lost another one to the digital content push

Spin has joined the long list of magazines that have left us, from Gourmet and Smart Money to Paste and Blender, but the Buzzmedia-owned magazine is stopping production to focus on its digital assets. The news comes two months after weekly current affairs magazine Newsweek announced it was going all-digital in the new year.

The magazine announced the news to its subscribers on Friday, stating: “Spin has halted publication of our print edition to invest more deeply in our digital properties, including Spin.com, Spin Play for iPad, and Spin mobile.  Special arrangements have been made with alternative publishers to fulfill your Spin print subscription for the remaining term: you will automatically receive your new magazine in the mail, with the option to ask for a full refund. We appreciate your patience during the transition of your subscription.”

Spin’s parent company laid off 11 employees—a third of the staff—and announced that the October and December print issues would be dropped back in July, after Buzzmedia took over the publication.
