Twitter is another year older. The social networking site turns seven today, and the service has come a long way since the co-founder, Jack Dorsey, posted the first-ever tweet on March 21, 2006: “Just setting up my twttr.”
For starters, the real-time platform now has more than 200 million active users creating over 400 million tweets each day, according to the networking site’s blog post. We’ve seen the communications platform evolve over the years, from the first hashtag and retweets, which came in 2007, to the first tweet sent from outer space in 2010.
To commemorate the platform’s 7th birthday, Twitter released a video showing a short history of the service.
