Coca-Cola Advocating Entrepreneurship for Women Living In Slums

Company seeks to help at least 5 million enterprising females by 2020


Women’s History Month comes every March, and groups, individuals, businesses and corporations are celebrating the contributions of women all over the world, as well as advocating for changing their lives in a positive direction.

In celebration of the International Women’s Day (IWD), Coca-Cola has launched a poverty eradication project for the women living in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. Through 5by20, a program that provides entrepreneurship skills, Coca-Cola intends to equip 5 million women by the year 2020.

Though Nairobi, Kenya’s largest and capital city, has a poverty percentage of 46% and is home to Kibera, the largest urban slum in Africa, it is known as the country’s most prominent business and political center, serving as an cultural, economical and technological mecca.
