Tichina Arnold Talks Career Longevity

Tichina Arnold Talks Career Longevity

When most people think of Tichina Arnold they immediately begin picturing the ridiculously, hilarious antics of Pam, Arnold’s character on the 90’s hit-sitcom, Martin.

Real Tichina Arnold fans, however, remember how she first captivated our full attention in 1986 as Crystal, one member of the singing trio in musical film Little Shop of Horrors.

Newer fans may most recognize Arnold as Rochelle, the stern, yet comical and relatable mother on Everybody Hates Chris.

Now, we can all marvel at Arnold’s innate talent as Cassie Calloway, the brutally honest mother of Cam Calloway in Starz series, Survivor’s Remorse.

BlackEnterprise.com caught up with Arnold to find out how she’s gotten this far, and where she plans to go next.

What do you attribute to such longevity in your career?

Arnold: The fact that I love what I do and my desire to build a great legacy of doing good work.

What’s next? What is your dream?

I’ve been acting for 35 years now. My dream is to do a biopic—the story of Sarah Vaughn, otherwise known as Sassy.

You’re playing a mother in Survivor’s Remorse, what makes this experience different from your role as a mother in the past?

I am mother of older kids and I can curse. LOL.

What can viewers expect on this upcoming season of Survivor’s Remorse?

You can expect a lot dramedy. This season you will get to know more about all the characters. This season we push the envelope! You’ll have to tune in on july 24,  since I am sworn to secrecy.

What do you know right now that you wish you knew when starting out?

I started in show business at the age of 11, so every mistake I’ve made prepared me for my career in the entertainment industry.

What has been your biggest setback and your greatest triumph as an actress in Hollywood?

My biggest setback, I don’t have any. My greatest triumph: having my daughter.

What advice would you have for young actresses looking to follow in your footsteps?

You better love it, especially when it doesn’t love you. It takes great sacrifice, so having a passion; a love for it, will help you get through the rough times.

Catch season 3 of Arnold’s most recent work, Survivor’s Remorse, Sunday, July 24 at 10 p.m. on Starz. For more information on Survivor’s Remorse follow @SRemorse_Starz.
