A daycare worker at New Life Baptist Daycare and Preschool in Fayetteville, North Carolina was reportedly fired because she got pregnant out of wedlock.
Venita Short had been employed for more than a year and a half and had received praise for her work and three pay raises; but when she told her boss she was expecting, but had no plans on getting married, all that changed.
Her supervisor reminded her that “fornication is a sin.” Short explained that she “didn’t plan on getting pregnant, but she did.”
One week after the conversation with her boss, Short says they told her she was fired because she was pregnant and unmarried. Short is now investigating her legal options.
