Many employers have dress codes for their office that must be adhered to maintain the company culture. Disobeying the dress code can result in different reprimands that could lead to termination. This is a more common occurrence for loss of employment due to appearance, but not the only one. Donna Ballman, a lawyer who writes for AOL Jobs, lists 7 ways that you could be fired that has nothing to do with your clothes.
How could this be possible? Some of those justifications are things you cannot do anything about. Ballman says:
It depends. While employers can’t fire you based on race, sex, national origin, age, disability or other protected categories that may relate to appearance, there are some appearance-based firings that may be perfectly legal.
