Classes from 9am to 3pm, your organizations’ meetings scheduled right after, and you’re trying to sneak a bite to eat in between. Oh, and of course you can’t forget Facebook/YouTube/Twitter/Tumblr-time. Are you wondering what time that leaves for homework and studying?

Welcome to the life of today’s college student. A study released last year by Philip Babcock and Mindy Marks, professors from the University of California, discovered the amount of time the average college student at a four-year college spends studying has declined by 42% since 1961, which narrows work outside of the classroom down to approximately 14 hours per week. With students spending less time hitting the books, they have to maximize whatever time is available for studying and completing assignment. As part of our Back to School coverage, BlackEnterprise.com has supplied students with three, easy-to-follow pointers on maximizing their study time. —Janel Martinez

Let’s face it: the classroom, library, and study centers are no longer just for books—add laptops, iPods, tablets, and e-book readers to the list of must-have gadgets students are toting around campus. In fact, most colleges and universities are meeting students where they’re at, providing pupils with work accessible only on interactive platforms, such as the growingly popular podcasts, which are being used to elaborate on homework assignments, share lecture notes and access additional class materials. As part of our Back to School coverage, BlackEnterprise.com suggests students check out these five podcasts that will boost their academic prowess. —Janel Martinez

With more than 48 million iPad’s projected to be sold in 2011—largely due to mobile workers—we’ll start to see an increase in the way people use the device for business. The simple fact is workers are spending more time executing tasks remotely and accessing email from mobile devices (of this market segment 32% of employees rely on multiple mobile devices to complete their work). Providing portability and functionality, the iPad is quickly trumping the laptop as the meeting-ready mobile device of choice. Here are six reasons why, along with a few accompanying apps. —Hajj Flemings

Are paper business cards extinct? As I travel to various interactive conferences I find there are more digital transfers of contact information than business cards changing hands. With the introduction of smartphones and tablets into the work environment, people have the ability to share their contact information digitally in real-time so the idea of a physical card may be a thing of the past for some. One of the major problems with traditional business cards is that we have a pile of them; we can never find the one we need when we need it and our pertinent business contacts need to be stored digitally. There are a host of technologies that can equip users to store contacts digitally that can be accessed from any mobile device at anytime and integrates a social layer to business networking and provides the context of the interaction. Still, I would argue that there is still value in paper business cards so don’t throw your cards away, yet. But here are five digital tools that can help you make the transition smoothly. —Hajj Flemings

Privacy continues to be one of the top issues in sharing content on social networks. Recently, Facebook announced their new privacy settings and the redesign they are rolling out soon. Users started seeing the new privacy changes to the Web version Thursday, and the mobile roll-out of changes will happen soon after. An interesting question is what is driving the new Facebook privacy changes? Is it Google Plus or the need to provide users with a more contextual experience? The launch of Google Plus has intensified content-sharing privacy with their Google Circles functionality. The friendly competition with Google will hopefully continue to provide changes that will benefit the user. The other big plus is that these adjustments enable users to manage their profiles, which represent and reflect a portion of their online identity. ---Hajj Flemings
