P&G and Dr. Ian Want You to Tuck In and Turn Off


Kicking off National Sleep Awareness Week, Procter and Gamble in partnership with wellness expert, Dr. Ian Smith, launched the “Tuck in. Turn Off,” initiative. With 41% of Americans reporting sleep problems, the leading consumer goods company is encouraging folks to turn off the technology at least 30 minutes before bedtime.

Dr. Ian, most recognized for his turn as the resident health expert on VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club, can attest to the difficulties most have in tuning out before bedtime. He says “it’s hard to unwind and turn off your mind at the end of the day, especially when technology like laptops and smartphones are so readily accessible and easy to use in bed.”

When asked about the effect lack of sleep has on the workforce, the doctor points to studies that prove bad sleeping habits lead to poor productivity, which he says “translates into billions of dollars in lost revenue per year.” He adds “under-performance has an effect on not just the bottom line, but on company morale.”

In addition to unplugging, P&G suggest creating a relaxing environment by slipping into clean sheets and pajamas infused with the soothing scent of lavender, which is known for its relaxation properties. They introduced their Sweet Dreams collection designed specifically to aid in a restful sleep.
