The American Black Film Festival: 10 Facts about Morris Chestnut


The 10 Facts Series comes to The American Black Film Festival. To celebrate its 18th year, ABFF is relocating to the diverse metropolis of New York City taking place June 19 through June 22. We spotlight the 2014 Ambassador, Morris Chestnut. 

1. Morris Chestnut has played a football player in three movies, Boyz in the Hood, The Best Man, and The Game Plan.

2. He is named after his father.

3. He was born on New Year’s Day.

4. In 1998, he won the Madden Bowl video game competition.

5. Chestnut is married to Pam Byse and they have two children.

6. He was nominated for an NAACP award for his role in the 1999 film, The Best Man.

7. Has co-starred with Steven Seagal in three movies: 1995’s Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, 2002s Half Past Dead and 2008’s Prince of Pistols.

8. Co-starred with Patti LaBelle, Vivica Fox, and Duane Martin from 1992—1993 on the sitcom, Out All Night.

9. Currently playing Dr. Prentiss on Showtime’s Nurse Jackie.

10. He majored in drama and finance at California State University, Northridge.
