Doesn’t it seem like every movie that Will Smith appears in, he ends up saving the world? Well, let’s take a look at some of those films that starred the former Fresh Prince.
I, Robot (2004)
Based on Isaac Asimov’s I, Robot and The Caves of Steel, Detective Del Spooner (Will Smith) has a distrust towards robots, who have been infused in society as servants to humans. Of course, his bias towards robots helps justify his prejudice when the robots finally turn on the humans to take over and of course, Spooner saves the day! And it’s been reported that there is a sequel in the works.
An alcoholic superhero? Well, in this day and age, why not? John Hancock (Will Smith) routinely saves the city, rescues people, but usually does so much damage that he has become a vilified crime fighter. After saving the life of a PR guy, it is suggested he go to jail on outstanding warrants to show the city that when he is incarcerated, crime rises and he is needed to keep it in check.
Yada, yada, he saves the day once again and carries off to continue fighting crime! Hancock 2 is on the way as well.
Bad Boys (1995), Bad Boys II (2003)
Arguably the funniest movie on the list as it also enlists funny man, Martin Lawrence. Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) are best friends who happen to be partners on the police force in sunny Miami. Burnett is married with children while Lowrey is the playboy. Of course, Lowrey is the more accomplished undercover officer but Burnett compliments him well, even when he messes things up.
The pair is known for their unorthodoxed antics but eventually get the job done. In doing this, they become a headache for the police department. There is a Bad Boys 3 in the works to continue the escapades of the two.
Independence Day (1996)
The ultimate ‘save the world’ movie with an all-star cast featuring Will Smith. The world is being attacked simultaneously in various parts of the world as Earth is under attack and the aliens are poised to destroy all in its path. Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith) of the Black Knights, a squadron of Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornets, is fighting to save the world. With the help of other brave souls, the world is saved, once again, by Will Smith. Unless the aliens plan another assault soon, this is the only film that doesn’t have an upcoming sequel planned.
Men In Black (1997), Men In Black II (2002) and Men In Black 3 (2012)
This trilogy stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as the main characters and is based on Lowell Cunningham’s The Men in Black comic book series, originally published by Aircel Comics. Men in Black (M.I.B.) is a secret non-government agency that polices extraterrestrial alien refugees that make their way to planet Earth. Agents James Darrell Edwards III (Will Smith) and Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) continuously fight to get rid of the aliens who are always ready to do harm to humans. Men In Black 4 is currently in the works.
