- Obama Raises Over $70 Million for 2012 Campaign During Third Quarter
President Barack Obama’s campaign is faring well in the area of fundraising. The president’s campaign committee has accumulated $70.1 million, exceeding a goal set by the campaign of $55 million combined for the July-September fundraising period.
The feat was accomplished through a collective effort by the president’s campaign committee, Obama for America (OFA) and the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

A Gallup poll released Thursday found that 35 % of Americans oppose the death penalty—the highest level in nearly 40 years. It’s the highest opposition since March 1972, when the Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty was constitutional unless it was applied unjustly.
- Aretha to Headline MLK Monument Dedication
Singer and songwriter Aretha Franklin will headline the entertainers at this weekend’s dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on the National Mall. A ceremonial dedication will be held at 11 a.m. on the grounds of the memorial, where the Queen of Soul will perform.
