Utendahl Joins Deutsche Bank Americas as Vice Chairman

John O. Utendahl, founder of Utendahl Capital Partners L.P., has joined Deutsche Bank Americas Holding Corp. as a vice chairman, where he will focus on cultivating and enhancing strategic client relationships, the company announced Thursday.

“John’s unparalleled network of senior-level corporate relationships and his extensive experience across products and markets will be an asset to Deutsche Bank and its clients,” said Donna Milrod, managing director and head of strategy and oversight. “Throughout his career, John also has been a champion for diversity on Wall Street, and we will work together to increase the presence and prominence of minorities in the financial industry.”

Utendahl will be based in New York as part of the Office of the CEO of Deutsche Bank Americas and he’ll join the senior client team. Utendahl did not return a request for comment by press time.

In January Utendahl Capital Partners transitioned its financial services activities to The Williams Capital Group L.P. (No. 2 on the BE Investment Banks list). As part of the deal, Utendahl had maintained a strategic business relationship with Williams Capital in the role of senior advisor. The business operations of Utendahl Capital Management, a registered investment advisor, and its affiliated private equity fund companies were not part of the change and continue to operate independently.

According to Thompson’s Analytics, Williams Capital Group ($207 Billion) and Utendahl Capital Partners ($126 Billion) both ranked in the Top 25 of Global Underwriters of Corporate Debt and Preferred Stock Offerings during 2008.

Utendahl has nearly 30 years of experience on Wall Street, and for the past 18 years he has been chairman of the Utendahl Organization, a full-scale, minority-owned financial service institution. In 1992 he founded Utendahl Capital Partners (No. 7 on the BE Investment Banks list), which offered full-service investment banking services, including private equity, asset management, sales and trading, public and private underwriting, mergers and acquisitions, and research. UCP went on to become the foundation for the Utendahl Organization’s five financial affiliates, including Utendahl Capital Management L.P. (No. 8 on the BE Asset Managers list with $2.9 billion in assets under management) , and UrbanAmerica L.P. (No. 4 on the BE Private Equity list), a property investor focused on urban real estate development.

During its almost 20-year history, Utendahl Capital Partners lead-managed more than $1 billion in corporate-bond transactions; co-managed transactions of more $45 billion in public corporate debt as well as $63 billion in securizations; and participated in over $11 billion in underwriting in investment grade-corporate debt as well as $20 billion in structured securizations.

Utendahl, a regular on the BE Top Blacks on Wall Street list, started his career at Salomon Brothers in 1982 as a corporate bond trader and later became a trading desk manager in Merrill Lynch’s corporate bond department. He holds an M.B.A. from Columbia University.
