Scott Wagner, GoDaddy’s interim CEO, released a statement Tuesday about the domain registrar and web hosting company’s outage, which caused numerous sites to go down yesterday. Wagner claims the service outage was the result of network issues, not a hack.
“The service outage was not caused by external influences. It was not a ‘hack’ and it was not a denial of service attack (DDoS),” said Wagner. “We have determined the service outage was due to a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables. Once the issues were identified, we took corrective actions to restore services for our customers and GoDaddy.com. We have implemented measures to prevent this from occurring again.”
As the company informed customers on Monday, “At no time was any customer data at risk or were any of our systems compromised.”
The outage started around 10 a.m. PT, and service was restored by 4 p.m. PT. While initial reports pointed towards hackers, they were never confirmed by GoDaddy. The company issued a series of tweets updating customers on its progress.
The company responded with today’s statement, which dismissed those claims.
