Marketers Accused of Not Leveraging Social Media to Target Blacks


Although black consumers in the US will reportedly have $1.1 trillion in annual buying power by 2015, marketers are leaving this influential demographic behind when it comes to marketing on social. Madame Noire reports that despite the consumer research, marketers aren’t reaching out to African American consumers via new media tools.

“Brands are not taking full advantage of social media to reach black consumers,” Keisha Brown, senior vice president and managing director of multicultural agency Lagrant Communications, told Madame Noire. “If you’re going to venture into social media to target the consumer, you have to do it the right way, with authenticity and consistency.”
