international students are also assigned advisers who understand their specific needs and can provide transitional support, be it academic, social and/or cultural.

How does the university weigh GPA, SAT scores, extracurricular activities and college essay and recommendations during the application process?

Swarthmore does not have a weighted or ranked application review process. We engage in a holistic application review, meaning that we seek to understand each applicant in his/her academic, cultural, and communal context. For us it is really about how all the individual pieces of the application work together to give us a sense of the whole student. Each applicant is reviewed by multiple members of the admissions committee and given full consideration.

What is the student-teacher ratio?

8:1

What is the university’s housing situation like? Is it difficult for freshmen and sophomores to get housing?

As a residential college, 97% of our students live on campus all four years. First-year students are required to live on campus, and housing is guaranteed all four years.
