Orlando Massacre Was an LGBT-Hate Crime, Not a Radical Islamic Terrorist Act

The focus should be on gun control and protections against LGBT people not alleged ties to ISIS

Make no mistake about it; the devastating massacre that took place at Orlando’s Pulse Nightclub was a hate crime, not a radical Islamic terrorist act. The killing spree left 49 victims—significantly gay Latinos—and the shooter dead and 53 people injured. The massacre happened on Latin-themed night at the Floridian hotspot for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community.

Outside of the 1890 massacre at Wounded Knee Sunday’s massacre is the deadliest mass shooting event in U.S. history, note news reports. We cannot negate the fact that this is also the deadliest event targeting LGBT people in U.S. history, nor the fact that is happened during LGBT Pride Month in the United States, when millions of courageous individuals are celebrating the freedom to live their truth and support others willing to take the brave step.

Celebrating LGBT pride was, in fact, established in the aftermath of violence—particularly police brutality—against LGBT people for deciding to be OUT and proud. The Stonewall Inn in New York City is a gay bar and the site of the historical 1969 Stonewall riots that is often referred to as the trigger for the LGBT liberation movement.  Now, nearly 47 years later after the historic Stonewall Riots, another anti-LGBT attack has happened, and our community must find a way to heal and thrive in the aftermath of this evil hate crime.

Yet, the focus is not on the shooter’s violent behavior or homophobia that led the mass shooting. Instead, it is on whether he had ties to ISIS even though two prior federal investigations came back stating he was not a terrorist threat. The lone gunman, identified as Omar Mateen and born to Afghan parents, allegedly declared his allegiance was to the Islamic State in a call to 911 before he opened fire. Mateen’s father told reporters that just before the killing spree, his son was enraged by seeing two men kissing in public. Mateen’s ex-wife talked about him being a violent man.

But Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, is using the incident to support his rhetoric calling for a U.S. ban on Muslims, while the news media has been quick to label the massacre a domestic terrorist act against Americans. But this was someone looking to kill gay men, not seeking to kill any American citizens. Truth be told, Florida is among some 28 states where there has been a wave of anti LGBT-discrimination campaigns and proposed laws under the guise of Christian religious freedom in the past 18 months, including Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

The National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC), a Washington D.C.-based national civil rights organization dedicated to the empowerment of Black LGBT people, released this statement, “NBJC envisions a world where all people are fully-empowered to participate safely, openly, and honestly in family, faith and community, regardless of race, class, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability. Today’s event confirms to us to continue the work for all people to be able to live their authentic lives—free from fear of violence, hate or discrimination.” NBJC’s mission is to end racism and homophobia.

You are 100% wrong. It was an Islamic Terrorist act. This is why the left doesn’t take this stuff seriously. The teachings of Islam are not compatible with the gay lifestyle. He killed them because he was Muslim and they were gay, but it wasn’t a hate crime. alone. Saying “stop the hate” does not work with this mind-thought. In their mind, you are wrong, so you must die, and not only gays, all those who don’t follow Allah. Quit spreading this bunk. Just damn sad.

And neither are the teachings of the bible. Are you overlooking that part or just not going to church those days? He killed them because he was a sick individual. Him being Muslim is something your focusing on. Do you do the same thing when caucasians (whites) shot up these schools and other places and kill people? Because it happens a lot too. The media just doesn’t report on those that much. You can’t speak for Muslim’s. Who are they? Are you saying all Muslim’s think non-Muslim’s should die? You are very wrong. And I’m speaking as a Muslim. Allah is the translation of God in Arabric. So your saying we hate everyone that doesn’t follow God? smh Please education yourself instead of just repeating what you hear.

Oh really. and was the guy who gunned downed those Black churchgoers mentally ill? No he was immediately branded a white racist. No sympathy for him and he shouldn’t have gotten any either. Neither should this jerk for killing all these innocent people. When is the last time any Christians killed innocent people in the name of God. This guy called 911 and said he was doing this in honor of ISIS and their anti-gay teachings. Not all Muslims are terrorists, but most terrorists are Muslims. this shooting, San Bernadino, Paris, the man decapitated recently – all by Muslims. not Christians. The left wants to brand this guy as mentally ill because he was Muslim. Right now, in 2016, Muslims are the ones doing the killing.

I am not gay, Nor do I believe in it. But it was not right that a man full of rage, should come to their world and cause harm. Another Islam excuse. I realize America is a land of the free. But when you focus in on Islam. They seem to be young men who are spoiled and hate hate hate. Yet they are the ones full of hate hate hate… I met a family who moved to America from Irag. They were wonderful. Their lives were in danger living in their own country, this was after 9/11 They shared meals and our kids played with theirs. We can not go around and accuse every Muslim of being crazy. But Law Enforcement has got to never ever let someone who 3 times come to their attention (Buy Guns) after they have acted out like they hate people in our country.

Have you read the Quoran? Yes it was a hate crime because Islam hates. And he was an Islamic terrorist just following what the Quoran teaches. Ask any Muslim if they do not believe what is written in the book of no peace anywhere ever.
