Recent Paris football incident brings light to the ongoing discrimination throughout the world

Forget what you’ve heard about racism is an American problem. Oftentimes we have heard people from other countries insist that soldiers in the American armed services were treated so much better abroad. Or, our fellow West Indian black Americans will insist that they did not have these race issues in their country before coming to the U.S. Well, the recent viral video shot in Paris after a football game showing white fans chanting “We’re racist, and that’s the way we like it,” adds a new spin to that conversation.

BBC reports the incident occurred on Wednesday at the Paris metro station after the Chelsea Football Club returned from the Champions League match in Paris. BBC further reports that the club banned the five fans from the video from attending future games and that the British Transport Police is still investigating.

The Chelsea Captain stated in the following match’s program that, “Football is a sport for everyone, that is one of the main reasons why we love it, and what happened on the Paris Metro was unacceptable.”

The original purpose of the picture was to protest Donald Sterling’s actions. Why is it displayed with a recount of a heinous event in Paris? Using this particular picture is misleading and It misrepresents the men’s intentions. I’m disappointed Black Enterprise…

British soccer fans and european soccer fans have a horrible track record of racism for decades, the fact that your just becoming aware of it, means you all were living under a rock.

I must say that I too am a bit surprised that Black Enterprise seems to be seeing this just now, when in fact I recall exactly the same thing going back some 30 years ago when I was studying in England.

Ive found in my experience that Americans in general, don’t really pay attention to many things going in the world, that americans themselves are not in some way involved in. This issue has been discussed on sports channels numerous times when soccer was the topic With fans throwing bananas on the pitch. It even happened a few times during some NHL hockey games within the last 3 years.
