The Soul Train franchise consists of an award show and numerous videos and photos dating back to the groundbreaking music and dance show’s origins in the 1970s. In 2009, Viacom relaunched the Soul Train Awards in association with the brand’s previous owners.

Richard Gay (executive vice president/strategy and operations at BET Networks) stated, “BET Networks is honored to have acquired a brand with such a rich history and unique content that is forever relevant to all segments of our audience….With a Broadway play and a concert tour as examples of opportunities in the works, we look forward to finding engaging and smart ways to grow the brand while preserving its heritage and legacy in music, dance, and fashion.”‘

What a tragedy this will be, for BET to acquire the rights to take hold of a GREAT Show that used to define such great talent from a fantastic Music Genre which always used to showcase great quality Music from many Soul And R&B Artists, & Groups. The state of Soul And R&B (which I still appreciate till this day) has long since lost it’s meaning, because the Music Industry has turned from it’s roots, & are not showing real talent that this Music Genre truly deserves, along with the fact that many ‘claimed’ Fans are not supporting real Soul And R&B. There are hardly any good quality Music nowadays that catches my attention from Artists, & Groups are virtually next to non-existant. I am not the only one to verbalise this; other R&B Artists, & Groups themselves have openly stated the same concern.
If this Music Genre has not gotten to the dire state that it is in now (& it is not an over exaggeration), I would have been happy with this News. However as it has, I am simply upset. The Industry has to change, & return to it’s roots in regards to real Soul And R&B, period!
