Are paper business cards extinct? As I travel to various interactive conferences I find there are more digital transfers of contact information than business cards changing hands. With the introduction of smartphones and tablets into the work environment, people have the ability to share their contact information digitally in real-time so the idea of a physical card may be a thing of the past for some. One of the major problems with traditional business cards is that we have a pile of them; we can never find the one we need when we need it and our pertinent business contacts need to be stored digitally. There are a host of technologies that can equip users to store contacts digitally that can be accessed from any mobile device at anytime and integrates a social layer to business networking and provides the context of the interaction. Still, I would argue that there is still value in paper business cards so don’t throw your cards away, yet. But here are five digital tools that can help you make the transition smoothly. —Hajj Flemings

Twitter is a power platform for business users and entrepreneurs to humanize their brand and communicate their message directly with their audience. To fully optimize it as a business tool, though, you’ll have to use third party applications and other online tools. This is especially true for users who have to manage multiple Twitter accounts and conversations. Third party apps and tools provide users a richer Twitter experience and enable deeper engagement with their followers. Currently, 58% of published tweets come from official Twitter apps, while the remaining 42% come from third-party apps. That’s a lot of apps and with so many options available, it’s hard to know where to start. Well, here are 10 essential Twitter tools to get the most out of your social media experience. —Hajj E. Skilled orators are savvy marketers by definition. Take for instance, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter. The rapper-turned-businessman can deem a product cool or passé simply by how he flips it in a verse. But does Jay-Z co-signing a brand in rhyme necessarily equal a boost in its respective sales? Here, BlackEnterprise.com takes a look at some products that have been name-checked by the influential orator over the years, and how they fared in the aftermath. —Alvin Blanco (Images: Getty)

This week's Social Media Connection is Chris Curtis, a web business expert, business radio personality and author of the upcoming book Work the Web! The Webwise Guide to Business Online. In her own words, Curtis shares how she uses social media to achieve her business objectives: When it comes to Social Media, I've carved out my own little corners where I can post until my heart's content (or until my brain can't think of anything to type), and connect with people all over the world. As a business owner, its proven to be a successful way to reach out to others and pitch ideas, form collaborations and even find new contacts for my seminars and workshops. You'll be amazed by the people you meet, and you'll most likely find opportunities in places you never thought of. One note of caution: Be careful what you put in writing. When you're connected for business purposes, don't say anything that you wouldn't say to a prospective client or a business partner. Remember, you're exposing your writing to thousands - even millions - of people who might take exception to interpersonal expressions, if they're thinking about connecting with you to do business. Think before you post. Not sure where to start? Here's where I hang out...
