Charles Barkley From the onset of his career Barkley was surrounded by greatness. Drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1984, he joined a team that includes legends Julius Erving, Moses Malone and Maurice Cheeks. Holding his own, Sir Charles averaged 14 points and 8.6 rebounds per game during his rookie season. A year later, he was the team’s leading rebounder and second scorer before eventually becoming the Sixers’ franchise player until he was traded in 1992 to the Phoenix Suns, where he continued to dominate as a rebounder and team leader. By time he retired in 2000, Barkley became the fourth player in NBA history to achieve 20,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 4,000 assists. However, the Dream Team gold medalist was never able to win a title to compliment his accolades.

Since its 2008 launch, Klout has been praised as a helpful tool for social influence, and criticized on score inconsistencies all in the same breath. Technology blogger Diego Basch summed it up best: “It’s simply a game that measures how good you are at it. Your Klout score measures how good you are at getting a high Klout score.”

While Klout maintains that their "True Reach" metric is a work in progress, it’s hard not to view the number as the end-all, be-all of one’s digital influence. It matters so much so that companies are using the scoring system to decide whether or not they’ll employ an individual. Sam Fiorella’s job interview was cut short when he admitted to not knowing about Klout. After the dismissal, Fiorella spent the next six months working to boost his Klout score, ultimately reaching 72. With interactive influence determining whether or not you’ll land your next job (or VIP status at an upcoming event), here are 5 tips to boosting your Klout score in 5 days.--Terrena Carriman
