3 Shopping ‘Deals’ to Avoid In December

Contrary to popular belief, the best deals for certain things on holiday wish lists are not happening right now. In fact, many of the must have items this year will see significant markdowns in the early part of 2013. And, while part of the joy of giving is giving a loved one exactly what they want right then, there’s something to be said for waiting for a considerable markdown.

1. Cashmere: This lovely luxury item screams holidays and snuggling, but it is usually marked up by 50 to 60 percent this time of year. Look for post-holiday deals early in the year and purchase one on the next big consumer-spending holiday — Valentine’s Day.

2. Electronics: Black Friday has some of y’all fooled. Sure, some big retailers and small businesses were slashing prices considerably on lesser-known televisions, but the real savings on big-name TVs will happen right before Super Bowl. As for laptops and tablets, holiday time isn’t the best time to purchase either. Look for deals on these in August and September when these items go on sale in time for Back to School.

3. Furniture: Now isn’t the time to re-decorate your home. So, save your dollars for after the holidays if you’re in the market to remodel or buy new pieces of furniture. Look for deals 30 to 40 percent off in January on furniture and deals of up to 50 percent off for linens.
