$500K Or Dinner With Hov? Jay-Z Finally Weighs In On The Viral Question
If someone gave you the option to take $500,000 in cash or share a meal with rapper Shawn Carter, aka Jay-Z, which would you choose?
The Roc Nation boss gave CBS anchor Gayle King the answer: “You’ve gotta take the money,” he said, CBS News reports.
The platinum-selling rapper and media mogul sat down with King for a rare two-part interview airing on “CBS This Morning” in late October 2023, and said all the advice one might think they will receive at dinner is in the lyrics of his music.
“You’ve got all that in the music for $10.99,” he continues. “It’s all there. If you piece it together and really listen to the music for the words, well, what it is, it’s all there.”
Would it be smarter to take $500,000 in cash or share a meal with JAY-Z?

Jay-Z took King on a tour of the “The Book of HOV” exhibit at the Brooklyn Public Library, an exhibit honoring the billionaire’s body of work, including his original master recordings, and paying homage to his business ventures and efforts toward reform of the criminal justice system.
During the interview, according to People, Carter called his music the “blueprint to his life.” “Everything that I said was going to happen, happened,” the rapper and producer said.
“Everything that I said I wanted to do, I’ve done, and there’s the blueprint. The blueprint — literally — to me and my life and my journey is there already.”
The question of which choice people would make often sparks debates between fans on social media. A fan can be heard on video approaching Jay-Z, saying he would take the money but still respects him.
“Hey Hov, I’m taking that $500K,” the fan says. “I’m not taking that dinner; I’m taking that $500K, you feel me? It’s love, though.”
