A Splash Of Color

When it comes to digital cameras more is better. But these days, consumers are no longer impressed just by megapixel count. They also want speed, power, and innovation. Canon’s new EOS-1D Mark III fits the bill. Marketed as the world’s fastest SLR digital camera, the EOS-1D is aimed primarily at professionals. The 10-megapixel, 10-frames-per-second camera also features a 3-inch LCD screen for easier image composition and editing. The EOS also features the new LP-E4 lithium-ion battery pack, making it roughly eight ounces lighter than its predecessor, the EOS-1D Mark II N (43.2 ounces), which used a nickel metal hydride pack. If the world of all-in-one printers was high school, Epson’s Stylus Photo RX580 would be the “popular kid”–friendly, bright, and easy on the eyes. In the real world, the printer also delivers on its popularity with high-quality performance: color photos (roughly 30 seconds for a lab-quality 4×6 photo) and black-and-white text (30 pages per minute) at a low price. The six-color printer/copier/scanner also features a 2.5-inch LCD, so you can easily edit and print images from a memory device–one of its many PC-free features. Price: $199.

Just because an office printer is in, well, an office, doesn’t mean it has to be putty-colored and boxy. At least that’s Panasonic’s thinking behind its C3 series of multifunction printers (copy/scan/fax/e-mail). The company recently unveiled this group of colorful printers for those offices that want to go beyond the bland. Large and small offices can customize their printers to suit their office style-and needs. Price: Panasonic’s suggested retail prices range from $14,290 to $15,690. Call 800-742-8086 for dealers.
