Alicia Keys Musical ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ Moves To New Broadway Theater For Spring 2024

Singer Alicia Keys' "Hell's Kitchen" musical will have a new home on Broadway for the Spring 2024 showings.

Alicia Keys’ Hell’s Kitchen musical will have a new home for the Spring 2024 performances.

The musical, based on the Grammy-winning singer’s music catalog and showing at The Public Theater until January 14, 2024, will move to Broadway’s Shubert Theatre beginning March 28, TheaterMania reports. This comes ahead of its April 20 opening for 2024.

Keys’ coming-of-age musical is based on her teenage years living inside a federally subsidized Times Square apartment complex in New York City. The musical follows 17-year-old Ali as she makes several life-changing discoveries in the Big Apple.

It includes many of Keys’ timeless hits including “Girl on Fire,” “Fallin’,” and “Empire State of Mind.” The musical’s off-Broadway run was hailed by critic Zachary Stewart as, “easily the best new musical at the Public since Hamilton.”

With a score by Keys and a book by Kristoffer Diaz, Michael Greif directed the music, and Camille A. Brown served as choreographer. Keys’ AKW Productions is a producer on the show.

Casting for the Broadway run will be announced ahead of its Spring 2024 debut. The Off-Broadway cast included Shoshana Bean, Maleah Joi Moon, Brandon Victor Dixon, Kecia Lewis, Chris Lee, and Vanessa Ferguson, via The Hollywood Reporter. The design team on the musical includes scenic design by Robert Brill, costume design by Dede Ayite and lighting design by Natasha Katz.

“Good things take time and for 13 years, I’ve been dreaming, developing and finding inspiration for a musical based on my experience growing up in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC. Hell’s Kitchen is inspired by my life, but it’s not a biographical story. It’s a story about family relationships and identity: Who are we? Who do we want to be? Who are we becoming?” Keys said.

“The score features new songs that I’m really excited to get out into the world alongside many of my album releases that you know but you’ve never heard like this – rearranged and reinterpreted.”
