Backtalk with Lovie Smith

So you think it has less to do with your race than with your record?
I was taught that I would fail if I weren’t good enough to do something. Period. And you have to get that in your mind-set right away. I said, “Hey, I’m going to learn my trade the best I can. I’ll become a student of the game and eventually I’ll be judged based on that only.”

Coaching seems like such a stressful job, how do you handle the pressure?
Working out and getting your rest are some of the things that can help you relieve some of that stress. And they’ll keep you healthy, too.

We hear that a fun evening for you is going out to dinner. Is that true?
It’s a boring life I live, isn’t it?

No, not at all, but is there anything about you that might shock someone?
Shock? I don’t know if they’d be shocked. My favorite movie of all time is Ben-Hur. But you know at the same time, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen Friday. How many guys have Ben-Hur and Friday as two of their favorite movies?
