Baltimore Shows Support for Angel Reese During LSU’s Game at Coppin State
"Baltimore has meant everything to me,” says Angel Reese.
New Orleans and the sports world have embraced her, but Angel Reese had to remind y’all that B’More is home for her. “I’m the Baltimore Barbie before the Bayou Barbie,” said Reese.
According to The Washington Post, Reese was not only widely accepted (and anticipated) in a game back in her hometown of Baltimore, but it was a homecoming of sorts for the LSU Tigers center, who has captured the hearts of many sports fans with her spirited play. She was back home for a basketball game against her hometown HBCU, Coppin State, which LSU won in a blowout 80-48 victory. Although it was a home game for the Maryland team, the gym was packed due to Reese coming to play. There were, no doubt, more Reese fans in the stands than there were Coppin State supporters.

The game was part of basketball coach Kim Mulkey’s effort to play games in the home cities of her players.
The sold-out game was even attended by Baltimore political figures: Mayor Brandon Scott and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore were both seen at the game.
“We’re a basketball town,” Scott said. “To have one of our hoopers who has gone on to do tremendous things come back, but come back to Coppin State, an HBCU that has meant so much to Baltimore, that has so much deep basketball history itself, means the world. We’re going to show up for our own. And both Angel and Coppin are our own.”
Reese did not disappoint as she scored 26 points, retrieved six rebounds, obtained five steals, two assists, and a block.
“Walking in here felt completely different than the first time coming in here,” she said. “In high school, I never played here. My sophomore year, I remember the first time I came here and there weren’t that many fans here. But then coming in tonight, just being able to see my impact and being able to see how much has changed and understanding my impact in this world. Baltimore has meant everything to me.”
Although the Tigers started the season with a loss, they have been undefeated since, winning their 12th straight game against Coppin State.
