BE MODERN MAN: MEET 'MR. COMMUNITY' LAMAR TYLER - Black Enterprise

BE Modern Man is an integrative program that honors the essence, image, and accomplishments of today’s man of color. With features of today’s leaders, executives, creatives, students, politicians, entrepreneurs, professionals, and agents of change—these men share the common thread of creating a new normal while setting the bar in tech, art, philanthropy, business, and beyond. The BE Modern Man is making a positive impact, his way, and has a story to tell.

What does being one of the BE Modern Man 100 Honorees mean to you?

To me, being a BE Modern Man means extending the legacy of great black men that have come before me and carrying that torch to the next generation that will come behind me. It’s an honor to be recognized by an organization that has played such a pivotal role in my life as an entrepreneur.

What is your “Extraordinary Impact?”

I make an extraordinary impact by waking up each day and intentionally putting in the work to build stronger black families which will serve as the foundation for a stronger black community!

What are you doing as a BEMM to help support black male achievement now or in the future?

The work that I do with BlackandMarriedWithKids.com (BMWK) pours into black males to make them better husbands and fathers so they can stand as the cornerstone of our communities. I also teach the keys to economic success online through our Traffic Sales & Profit brand that allows time and financial freedom to spend more time doing what you love with the people that you love.

What are some examples of how you have turned struggle into success?

I’ve started multiple businesses over the years from IT-based to a family-owned dump truck company and while every opportunity didn’t work, I learned a valuable lesson in each. What I discovered was that being discouraged was OK but being defeated was not. Each time something didn’t work it was up to me to learn from the lesson then apply it during the next venture to ensure I didn’t make the same mistake twice.

What is an important quality you look for in your relationships with others?

Character is the key to it all.

What are some immediate projects you are working on?

Along with my wife Ronnie, I’m working on our 2019 BMWK Marriage Cruise which brings together black couples from across the globe to travel to exotic locations while improving their marriages and having fun in the process. Information is available at www.BMWKMarriageCruise.com. On the business side, I host the best online sales and marketing event in the country twice a year through my Traffic, Sales & Profit brand. Recent events have sold out as early as six months in advance but you can get more details on the next event at www.TrafficSalesandProfit.com.

What is the best advice you ever received?

It’s not what you’re worth, it’s what you negotiate.

What advice you have for other men who want to make a difference?

Start now, no excuses, because done is better than perfect.

How do you prep for an important business meeting and/or event?

Listen to a song that gets me motivated or I’ll listen to a speaker like Jim Rohn or Les Brown to get the juices and creativity flowing. The proper mindset is key!

Anything else you’d like to say?

Thank you for sharing your platform to highlight black men. We need a positive example of black men that are dominating in their fields and defeating stereotypes.
