Colin Kaepernick Blasts the NFL’s Social Justice Initiatives as ‘Propaganda’ for ‘Blackballing Eric Reid’

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick has come to the defense of his friend and fellow social injustice protester Eric Reid, who remains unsigned.

Kaepernick took to Twitter to blast the National Football League on its “propaganda about how they care about Black life,” yet Reid is being blackballed by the league for speaking out against the same issues he spoke up about.

Kaepernick, who was the starting quarterback in Super Bowl XLVII for the San Francisco 49ers in 2013, sparked the controversial #TakeAKnee movement after taking a knee during the national anthem to protest racial injustice in America. Reid, a teammate of Kaepernick, also kneeled in solidarity to help bring awareness to racial injustice and police brutality against Blacks.

According to Deadspin, the former Carolina Panther is currently unsigned even though he was ranked number seven in ESPN’s top 15 remaining NFL free agents. Since that list was published, every other free agent listed has received an NFL contract. This month, CBS ranked Reid, who had a terrific 2019 season, as the fourth-best available free agent, and currently is second behind wide receiver Antonio Brown.

“My agents have been in communications with teams daily, but there have been no developments,” Reid told Deadspin recently.

Reid set franchise records for a  defensive back last season with 130 tackles and four sacks for the Carolina Panthers but was let go by the team earlier this year. He not only played in all 16 games, but started every one of them. Reid, who made the Pro Bowl in the 2013 season, is only 28 years old.
