On Friday, March 11, 2016, at the Hilton Diplomat Resort & Spa, Hollywood, Florida, Torres will be schooling you on Crashing the Silicon Valley Boys Club at the 2016 Black Enterprise Women of Power Summit.
Torres aims to help you understand that it doesn’t always take a STEM degree or coding expertise to get a job in tech. Tech is the current growth industry and there is no foreseeable end to this streak. Now, it’s time to ‘innovatively’ apply your expertise to the tech industry, as there may be much to lose if you don’t.
If anyone knows how to apply what they know in order to professionally grow, it’s Torres. Prior to her current role as Android Play marketing director, Torres spent 15 years at Viacom in a multitude of product management roles, including senior vice president of digital publishing and entertainment products for Nickelodeon, senior vice president of Global Home Entertainment and Adult-Brand Learning, senior vice president of Hard Goods, and vice president of Nickelodeon Home, Gift and Packaged Goods.
She also serves on the board of the Global Language Project — bringing language learning to under-served public schools across the country, and was the previous president of the New York chapter of NAMIC, a non-profit organization on a mission to educate and empower multi-ethnic diversity within the communications industry.
In 2009, Torres was honored as one of Black Enterprises 75 Most Powerful Women in Business. She received a M.B.A. from Stanford University and a B.A. from Harvard University.
