“Drumline: A New Beat” Premieres on VH1

Most of us remember the original motion picture “Drumline” starring Nick Cannon and Zoe Saldana. The movie took us back to our college days featuring bands that kept the crowd excited, artfully remixed old-school jams and made us take pride in our school’s “fight” song.  Now, twelve years after the release of “Drumline”, the story returns with a twist in “Drumline: A New Beat”, the all-new original movie from VH1 and Fox Television studios.

“Drumline: A New Beat” isn’t exactly a sequel. Instead, it’s a modernized version of the original hit. The story follows Alexandra Shipp as Danielle (Dani) Raymond, an upper class Brooklyn girl determined to join and revitalize the once-prominent drumline at the fictional Atlanta A&T University. Raymond, an up and coming actress, also stars in the upcoming Lifetime biopic, “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B”.

Dani’s freshmen classmates and rivals include Tyree (Jeff Pierre), Jayven (Jordan Calloway), Tasha (Jasmine Burke) and Josh (Scott Shilstone). Returning from the original film are Sean Taylor (Leonard Roberts) and Devon Miles (Nick Cannon, who is also the movie’s executive producer).  LeToya Luckett and Deray Davis round out the cast as Atlanta A&T ‘s Dean, Dr. Nia Phillips and Sean’s brother, Kevin Taylor.

“Drumline: A New Beat” is debuting at the perfect time, as many colleges are celebrating their homecoming. The movie airs Monday, October 27 at 9pm on VH1.
