Embark On An Adventure To The Newest Culinary Destination: Bermuda

Bermuda is a tropical island paradise known for its decidedly British flair, island spirit, lively parties, friendly locals, and divine pink sand beaches.

And if that weren’t enough, what many people don’t realize is that Bermuda also offers an impressive food culture. In fact, it’s become quite the food lover’s paradise for those who are seeking diverse culinary options, bold flavors, and fresh food. So much so, that it has also caught the eye of internationally renowned chefs such as Marcus Samuelsson, who has recently set up shop on the beautiful island.

For those looking to head to Bermuda this year, we’ve outlined some of the top culinary destinations for you to run (not walk) to upon landing!

Tribe Road Kitchen

Locals flock to this eclectic café bakery with a selection of its gourmet sandwiches and salads, plus an ever-changing lineup of baked goods. With menu items that serve plentiful portions and a wide selection of sandwiches on homemade bread, rustic soups, salads, chicken and waffles, eggs benedict, and pizzas made on their impressive fast-cooking Pizza Maker, you’re mouth is sure to water upon entering. Not to mention, wonderful outdoor seating where you can sit and relax and enjoy your surroundings. Don’t believe us? Well, men lie, women lie, but numbers don’t. The long list of awards that Tribe Road Kitchen has won includes the: Best of Bermuda 2015 Award for Great Sandwich along with Best of Bermuda 2013 Award for Great Sandwich and Pizza along with the Best of Bermuda’s 2012 award for the Best Fresh Breads and Pastries and Great Sandwich.

Barracuda Grill

For over a decade, Barracuda Grill has been the place to go for outstanding seafood and chops prepared in a contemporary style, proudly winning more than 10 Best of Bermuda Awards. Classically stylish, Barracuda features warm mahogany woods, plush banquettes and a sumptuous but ever so comfortable dining room, suitable for power business meals or romantic tête-à-tête’s. The Barracuda Grill’s lavish and inviting interior hints at a time of luxurious passenger ships, popping champagne corks, and refined dining, all contemporized to be thoroughly of the moment. Irresistible seafood and chops prepared with expertise and passion take center stage on immaculate linen-covered tables.

Café Amici

Located in the West End, Café Amici is an Italian family style restaurant in the heart of historic Dockyard. It is a place for friends and family to gather and enjoy the spirit of Italian culture and cuisine–enjoying laughter, exceptional food, and each other. Executive chef and owner, Livio Ferigo, has created a menu with many of his favorite childhood dishes that he enjoyed while growing up in Italy. Who wouldn’t want the best of both worlds: a taste of Italy on a beautiful island?

Waterlot Inn Restaurant

Honored with the AAA Four Diamond and Wine Spectator awards, The Waterlot Inn is a prestigious and historic steakhouse that offers sensational food, wine, and service in a stunning dockside location that overlooks the serene beauty of Jews Bay in Southampton. Although famous for its steak and chops, the Waterlot Inn provides an incredible multi-cuisine seasonal menu, with Continental and seafood dishes among the most popular. Popular appetizers include the Bermuda Fish Chowder, made with Gosling’s Black Sea Rum, the lobster bisque, and the house-smoked beef brisket.

Marcus’ Bermuda

For this latest restaurant, Marcus Samuelsson departs Harlem for Bermuda’s pink sand and turquoise coves. Marcus’s globally influenced menu offers items that combine local ingredients with Caribbean and Portuguese flavors. Guests get to enjoy such delicacies as oysters with black-rum mignonette, tandoori smoked salmon, jerk pork belly, and a delicious steak tray for two. And if you’ve ever had the Marcus Samuelsson culinary experience, then you already know you’re in for a real treat. Entrées such as grilled Bermuda onion and fish-chowder croquettes pay homage to traditional Bermudan cuisine.

Wahoos Restaurant

As its name implies, Wahoo’s Bistro & Patio serves everything wahoo, a flaky white local fish that’s as versatile as it is delicious. On the menu? Creamy wahoo chowder, smoked wahoo pâté, deep-fried wahoo nuggets, Baja-style wahoo tacos, wahoo burger, or simply grilled wahoo with gremolata butter. Of course, even if you’re not into wahoo you should still consider this harborfront favorite for lunch or dinner while visiting historic St. Georges. In addition to traditional Wiener schnitzel– (the chef is Austrian)–the restaurant is also known for its Bermuda rockfish with bananas.
