As cannabis becomes a taxable industry across the United States, and societal views of passing the peace pipe change, It’s becoming less taboo for women to talk their marijuana use, making lighting up, far more female friendly than in times of the past. Marijuana is available in several different forms. It can be smoked, vaporized, ingested in a pill form or an edible version can be added to foods such as brownies, cookies and chocolate bars, or can be used topically for skincare and beauty benefits, and if you’re still on the fence about the herb and its uses, here’s some info and a few ways marijuana may aid in the work/ life balance of women and today’s progressive #GirlBoss.

Decreased Anxiety- Holding high profile positions both at work and at home can make work/life balance seem like a distant destination and stress and anxiety appear to be the norm. Though, there are debates arguing marijuana’s ability to cure anxiety issues, certain strains of cannabis is said to help with short term success in relieving day to day stress in small doses.

Skincare- Hemp oil, is found in several skincare and beauty products such as conditioner, shampoo, and even facial masks– and is a legal by-product of  cannabis, with trace levels of THC that are just enough to offer an antioxidant effect, while containing heavy omega oils, which are essential for moisturizing dull skin, according to Elle Magazines, 2014 Pot Issue.

Cancer Related Benefits- Nearly two dozen states and the District of Columbia have legalized medical marijuana and residents of 13 states can use extracts of the plant to treat certain medical conditions. The controversy of the plant, specifically its ability to heal has intensified with scientific research that supports the plants ability to treat certain cancers and associated cancer side effects.

Increased Metabolism- THC, the active ingredient found in marijuana is said to have properties that speed up metabolism giving users, what is typically known as the munchies. Though, marijuana is in no way recommended as a weight loss tool, there are metabolic effects from cannabis smoking, that may increase energy levels. According to a report conducted by the American Diabetes Association, Cannabinoid receptors found within THC, play an important role in regulating energy balance, appetite, insulin sensitivity, pancreatic function, and lipid metabolism. Consistent with these findings, clinical interventional trials suggest that cannabinoid receptors (type 1)  reduces body weight.
