Google Invests In The Enterprise With Divide Purchase

The BYOD (bring your own device) company will still support its current users, at least for now.

Google is stepping up its enterprise game on Wednesday with the purchase of Divide, a business app that provides a safe location for work-related information on your phone.

Last year, Divide (previously known as Enterproid) received $12 million in funding from Google Ventures, according to Techcrunch.

Divide’s concept is pretty simple. The app partitions space on your Android phone, effectively turning part of your phone into a vault for secure information, protecting documents and presentations for work.

This allows workers to use their personal devices when dealing with private documents, and lets IT managers worry less with the new “bring your own device” movement taking over businesses.

The service isn’t unheard of: Samsung’s Knox is essentially the same thing, as is VMWare Horizon.

Google has already “tested the water” with its Google Apps services marketed exclusively toward businesses. Apps lets you use Google’s services like Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs via your business email address. It gives you the same experience as your personal Google account, but brings it to your job.

The team at Divide assured its users on its blog that everything will “work as it always has.”
