Harlem is Getting a Whole Foods

Residents of Harlem will soon have another grocery option: Whole Foods is landing on 125th Street.

Joining Old Navy, H&M and trendy restaurants that have changed the face of the historic thoroughfare, the grocery specializes in fresh produce and quirky culinary goods. Another market is being built on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

“The demographics of Harlem is changing, so we’re getting people who can afford that price point that are moving here. Hopefully they will work closely with the community so the greater Harlem community can shop there,” said Barbara Askins, president of the 125th Street Business Improvement Association in a report to the Wall Street Journal.

The Harlem location will open in 2015.
