How One Beauty Entrepreneur Made $2 Million in Two Years

Jerricha Hoskins was a young girl in foster care when she first dreamed about creating her business. Her mother left her in foster care when she was 15 years old. By 18, she was homeless and a single mother. Who would have thought that in two years she would have founded a haircare beauty empire worth $2 million?

Hoskins is the founder and CEO of Arcani Coil Care, one of the fastest-growing black-owned haircare brands on the market. In an effort to help her children escape the same fate she did, she decided to start a business in order to get herself out of poverty. “I’ve always wanted to be like Madam CJ Walker. And I’ve been using all the products on the market but it just didn’t work out for me,” Hoskins told WDTN. “I used the most popular products and it just did nothing. So I started formulating things and just introduced it to the public.”

The Ohio-based company carries a wide variety of items from vegan-based temporary hair colors to beard care kits for men to her best-selling “Enthroned Edges” edge control that is going viral on social media with the hashtag #rubchallenge.

Hoskins, now a mother of six, is very hands-on with her company. Her staff consists mostly of single mothers and foster kids who are aging out of the system. “I’m very passionate about working with at-risk youth because I was an at-risk youth at one time,” Hoskins said. “I know that if I was able to see something like this at an earlier stage it would’ve gave me that extra push.”

Arcani Coil Care ships its products nationwide and internationally to Zambia, Canada, and the Caribbean.
