Hurricane Sandy Hashtags Generate Over 3 Million Tweets

Just as Hurricane Sandy began rolling through the Eastern Seaboard, Twitter activity started to pick up with numerous social media users discussing the storm. In the first 24 hours, Twitter users produced more than 3 million tweets with #sandy and/or #hurricanesandy, according to findings from Topsy. The social insights company found that chatter on the social networking site peaked at over 290,000 mentions.

Based on Topsy’s sentiment scale, there have been more negative tweets. However, it’s important to note, positive tweets are inching upward.
