iPhone Switchers Are Losing Texts Thanks To Apple

If you’ve recently switched from an Apple iPhone to an Android phone, you may want to check for any missed messages.

A bug in Apple’s iMessage service is preventing many users who are switching from iPhones to Android devices from receiving text messages from other iPhone users.

The issue is rampant enough to incite a class-action lawsuit against Apple, according to Bloomberg. Adrienne Moore argues that they’re being “penalized and unable to obtain the full benefits of their wireless-service contracts.”

You can disable iMessage yourself, but that won’t guarantee that you’ll still receive your text messages on your Android device. Apple has spoken with customers and offered suggestions, including waiting up to 45 days for the iMessage service to remove you from the system.

iMessage works by sending your text messages through Apple’s own servers before they reach someone with iMessage enabled on their Apple device.

It’s a boon to people with metered texting plans, but many carriers offer unlimited texting in conjunction with basic phone plans.

As for a fix, Apple said it’s working on one, although it’s unclear when it will be released. For now, you can follow this guide on how to scrub iMessage from your life and move on with your new Android phone.
