Issa Rae Drops First-Ever Customizable Sneakers in Partnership With Converse
Hollywood creative Issa Rae has unveiled a new collection of sneakers in collaboration with Converse. The 36-year-old writer, actress, and producer is taking her creativity to the next level with her inspirational footwear.
“It was all about empowering the next generation to get up and DO what it is they aspire to do,” Rae said in a statement. “So the team took some of my personal affirmations and approaches to life, and put them into the design of the shoe.”
Issa Rae Teams Up with Converse
Issa Rae has shifted the entertainment culture and become a household name. In March, Issa Rae won her first NAACP Image Award. She received the Outstanding Actress in Comedy award for her breakout HBO series, Insecure. Now, she’s inspiring others to walk in excellence through her motivational sneakers.
Dubbed “Issa Rae By You,” the sneaker collection infuses Rae’s signature self-expression with customizable designs. According to the Converse website, the sneakers “celebrate the non-stop pace of creative pursuits and the motivational messages that keep them flowing.”
The “Insecure” producer teamed up with artist Nick Fulcher. They are bringing energizing color palettes to the popular Converse Chuck 70 collection. The shoes are available in an array of colors and provide fans with many customizable options. Motivational mantras include “Focus,” “Celebrate the Wins,” “Take Up More Space,” and “Walking in Your Purpose.” Each shoe also pays tribute to Rae’s hometown in California with a palm tree on the back of the heel.
Fulcher, a first-generation Haitian American, shared his excitement to partner with Issa Rae in a statement. “To have the opportunity to collaborate with Issa is a dream come true, not because of who she is, but what she stands for.”
