Pres. Obama Appoints African American Judge to 2nd Highest Court

At a press conference in the Rose Garden today, President Obama announced his nomination of Judge Robert Leon Wilkins to the second highest court in the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Wilkins currently serves as an United States District Judge for the District of Columbia, a position he has held since he was confirmed by the Senate without opposition in 2010.

The president nominated two others for the Court of Appeals as well as Wilkins, and the appointment has served as a stepping stone to a Supreme Court nomination in the past.
