Moms Mean Business: How To Become A Mompreneur

In today’s economy, moms are looking for ways to be home with their children and contribute to their household income. Mompreneur is a term that describes a mom who manages her home and her business.

There’s nothing like being a mom and an entrepreneur, it’s what I call a rewarding challenge. As a mompreneur, I am ambitiously balancing the role of full-time mom and full-time boss in an effort to achieve professional and personal success. Doing either as a standalone is no easy feat; it takes commitment, time, patience, money, perseverance, and most of all love.

For me, like most parents, once I gave birth to my son everything changed. Prior to giving birth, I was a very career-focused individual but I had a growing desire to be home. What held me back from staying home was our dependency on the cash flow of two working people. Not to mention, I was on bed rest for the entire pregnancy, which did not help the situation. We exhausted our savings account to help with living expenses. That fueled my faith, I was more determined than ever to start a business and work from my home.

A year ago, I took a leap to become a mompreneur. While it has its own set of challenges, stress, and “making me crazy” moments, it’s also been one of the best things that I’ve ever done for myself and my family. I’ve learned so much about running a business, the power of networking, and finance. Being a mompreneur is something that I believe in, and I wanted to share a few tips with you moms that are looking to start your own business.

Know Your WHY

Becoming an entrepreneur can be both freeing and frustrating, know why you want to start a business and why you feel this business will be lucrative.

Don’t Give Up Before You Grow Up

Starting a business is so laborious that you have to give yourself a chance to win. Don’t allow your emotions to impact your productivity.

Stay Focused on the Goal

Determine what your income goals are and create strategies to appeal to your audience that will generate leads.

Learn More, Earn More

Commit yourself to learning what works for you. If hiring an expert is best for you, do it and learn from them so that you can take your business to the next level.

Be Confident

Don’t wait for others to affirm you, believe in yourself and your business. You are unstoppable if you believe.

Stay Balanced

The momentum and excitement of starting a business can overtake you. Remember why being a mompreneur is important–you are managing your home and your business.

Being a mompreneur is empowering, I am able to spend quality time with my husband and son while running a business with passion and efficiency. So can you. Allow these tips to motivate you to become a successful mompreneur, if you so choose.
