According to NBA.com, a preseason game has been scheduled to take place in South Africa next year. The announcement was made by NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum, who is currently in Johannesburg, where the NBA is holding a Basketball without Borders camp.

The NBA will be the first U.S. professional sports organization to hold a game in Africa. All proceeds of the game will go to charity.

“The involvement of our players in growing the game internationally and on a global basis is critical and it’s important, and I think that our players understand that and I think that the basketball community understands that,” Tatum said in a phone interview.
