NCAA Women’s Basketball Game Paused By Wig Slip As Both Teams Come To Player’s Rescue

An Ole Miss player's wig slip during a game against South Carolina led to players from both sides coming to her rescue for privacy.

A moment of unity paused an NCAA Women’s Basketball game between Ole Miss and South Carolina on Feb. 4. Players on both teams took a moment to help out Ole Miss’ Marquesha Davis after her wig slipped off while playing.

A video of the ordeal went viral on X, showing Davis tumbling on the floor with her wig falling by her side due to the impact. However, instead of letting the 6-foot guard resolve the hair issue by herself, the Ole Miss Rebels and South Carolina Gamecocks rushed to conceal her as she fixed the wig.

While the moment could have been a source of embarrassment for the player, the athletes gave her privacy as she got the hairdo back together. The unusual but still touching case of sportsmanship was applauded by viewers and those involved in the matter themselves, such as South Carolina’s head coach Dawn Staley. Staley responded to the post containing the video, stating that women’s basketball players making sure one another is alright is the “kindness and understanding” they showcase daily.

After Davis secured her wig, the teams continued the game, with the Gamecocks besting the Rebels 85-56.
